Abstract

An outbreak of orf among 94 goats imported from USA and destined to Lebrija and Floridablanca (Santander) is described. Thirty eight goats were infected, and completly recovered after 2-4 weeks. No human infection was demonstrated. Two cows, milked by a sbepherd who looked after the goats, had papular lesions of the udder, but no virological studies were done in the man, or in the cows. In the goats, the clinical diagnosis was confirmed through biopsy, culture of the virus in embrionated chick eggs and direct visualization of the virion by negative staining and electron microscopy.
