Supersincronización del crecimiento in vitro del Plasmodium falciparum

María Orfa de Rojas, Moisés Wasserman, .

Abstract

A stringently sychronized growth of Plasmodium falciparum was achieved by three succesive treatments: with sorbitol, the mature forms were destroyed; a Percoll isopicnic gradient concentrated the schizonts, and a new sorbitol tratrnent after reinvasion, left a population of parasites with an age range of 3 hours. After 48 hours of incubation 99.1 % were schizonts. The morphology of the developmental forms was completely normal after treatment; their synchrony was controlled every 4 hours during the first cycle.
