Abstract

710 strains of bacteria from different specimens were studied in order to compare the zone sizes of inhibition from the lso-Sensitest agar and Mueller- Hinton agar. The disk diffusion technique of the NCCLS (National Commiitee for Clinical Laboratory Standards) was used. Statistically, using chisquare analysis for the specimens under observation, a reliability of 99% was obtained, therefore, there is no significant difference between the two media. In Iso-Sensit est agar, greater clarity was obtained for the diameters of inhibition halos; 62.0% better readings or greater visibility of inhibition zones was observed with cultures such as Enterococcus sp., Staphylococcus aureus showed up more sharply in 21.4% and Providencia stuartil in 20.0% flasks.
