C. A. Agudelo, .

Abstract

This document is a synthesis of the available information concerning demographical variables such as fertility, mortality, total population, age structure and population distribution. For each of these aspects, experimental modifications from the last decades and projections until the year 2025 are emphasised. Fertility and mortality exhibit adiminishing tendency whose beginnings do not coincide and whose fluctuations have different rhythmic patterns which has a clear impact on population growth and age structure. Likewise, global population developments paralleling those which have occured in Colombia are outlined, integrating different variables and identifying those possible for population growth. Lastly, the document reviews some of the possible factors which condition evolution and the demographic situation in Colombia, having been emphasised in the economic model - such as the degree of social development, the location and distribution of the population, cultural aspects, life styles and specific programmes which have had an impact on population trends.
